Well, here we are. The last official meeting of #loweclass. When I first walked in to room 300 in Johnston Hall this past January, I was extremely nervous. It wasn't because of the stories about Professor Lowe and his "tough love" teaching style. I knew I could handle that.
What frightened me most was that I knew I was beginning a class in which I would be forced to talk to strangers, ask questions, and build a story from scratch if I wanted a decent grade. As a naturally shy person who dreads the idea of talking to people outside of friends and family, this was a lot to ask.
If someone were to tell me that I was going to create in-depth video profiles about 3 separate adults and that I would do it without any help, I wouldn't have believed them. I have learned so much about how to conduct myself out in the field and how to effectively tell a story through video and audio.
I am still, like several others, a journalism major who most likely isn't going to become a professional journalist, but I have still gained extremely valuable knowledge that is going to help me in my future endeavors.
Being published by the Neighborhood News Service was a highlight of my college experience, and I have already shown it as an example of my work several teams with the company where I am currently employed. The last video profile provided more challenges, but was still a very solid piece of work that I will use to build on
As another school year at Marquette ends, I can honestly say that I have done my best work in every single category related to digital media. #loweclass was a transformational experience, and I can't wait to continue to use the skills I have gained as the beginning of my professional career draws closer.
